We're looking for a Paint Prep / Parts Preparation Technician to prepare manufactured parts and components for the painting and finishing process. You'll ensure parts are cleaned, inspected, masked, sanded and correctly staged so they meet quality standards and are ready for efficient painting.
Location: Ruislip, London
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00am-3:18pm
Pay rate: £13.60 per hour
Key Responsibilities for Paint Prepper:
- Prepare metal and manufactured parts for painting, coating, or finishing
- Clean, degrease, sand, grind, scuff and prepare surfaces as required
- Remove dirt, oil, grease, rust, scale, burrs and other contaminants
- Mask and plug areas that must not receive paint/coating
- Inspect parts for defects, surface imperfections and damage prior to painting
- Carry out minor surface repairs/corrections as needed
- Follow work instructions, drawings, specifications and production schedules
- Stage and identify parts for the paint department
- Load/unload, rack, hang or position parts for processing
- Operate hand tools, power tools, sanders, grinders and prep equipment safely
- Complete quality checks before parts move to the next operation
- Maintain a clean, organised work area and meet housekeeping standards
- Communicate any issues with parts, equipment or requirements to supervisors/quality
Skills & Requirements for Paint Prepper:
- Manufacturing/metal preparation/painting/finishing experience preferred
- Able to read and follow basic work instructions and production drawings
- Confident using hand and power tools
- Good attention to detail and able to spot surface defects
- Works well independently and as part of a team
- Reliable, punctual and safety-conscious
- Comfortable with repetitive physical tasks in a manufacturing environment
- Willing to learn company-specific processes and equipment
Work Environment:
- Workshop/manufacturing production setting
- Standing for long periods and handling metal parts
- Exposure to adhesives, polishing compounds and light machinery
- PPE such as gloves, eye protection and masks required depending on tasks
