Are you an experienced CNC Milling Programmer who enjoys developing others as much as producing precision engineered components? This role combines hands on technical machining with mentoring responsibility, giving you the opportunity to shape the next generation of engineering talent while delivering high quality manufacturing output.

About the Role

As Lead CNC Programmer and Technical Mentor, you will take ownership of programming, setting and operating CNC Milling machines to produce precision components to tight tolerances. You will troubleshoot issues on the shop floor, support efficient workflow, and uphold strong safety and quality standards.

Alongside your machining responsibilities, you will mentor apprentices, guide trainee setups, and share practical engineering knowledge to help them build confidence and capability. You will play a key role in promoting a culture of continuous improvement, safe working and professional development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program, set and operate CNC Milling machines to produce high quality components
  • Work from engineering drawings across a variety of materials and processes
  • Supervise trainee setups while encouraging independent problem solving
  • Operate manual machinery and hand tools
  • Carry out total preventative maintenance
  • Communicate effectively with setters, operators, supervisors and managers to maintain smooth workflow
  • Contribute to productivity, safety and quality improvements within machining operations

What You Will Bring

  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
  • Experience with Fanuc, G codes and Haas controllers
  • Knowledge of milling feeds and speeds across different materials
  • Confident use of measuring tools including calipers, micrometres and gauges
  • Ability to modify G code when required
  • GCSE Mathematics and GCSE English
  • Experience as a Milling Machine Programmer, Setter and Operator
  • Excellent communication skills with the patience to explain complex concepts clearly
  • Proven experience mentoring apprentices or developing junior engineers
  • Commitment to safe working practices and right first time quality

Desirable

  • Edge Cam experience
  • City and Guilds CNC related qualifications
  • Five years previous CNC Milling Programmer experience
