New ONS figures on the UK Labour Market see 100,000 fewer people with the status ‘not in work but seeking and available to work’ than a year previously, highlighting the limited number of candidates currently available to organisations currently.

Commenting on the latest statistics, Gi Group UK’s CEO, Bev White said “More than ever this brings into focus the importance of how we retain existing workers. The need to foster working practices and environments which encourage and improve retention are just as important as the attention given attracting candidates in the first place”.

“And with just 35 days until the Brexit date of March 29th, this is particularly pertinent for EU nationals in your workforce. The latest figures already see more than 50,000 fewer in work across the UK than a year earlier. If organisations have not already signposted their employees to the EU settlement scheme and looked at how they can support those wishing to apply, such as providing access to computers and information, now is the time to do so”.
