From the 1st of July, the process behind checking EEA citizens’ right to work in the UK changed. These changes are likely to impact your business and failure to comply with the new rules could result in a fine or even imprisonment. The new rules mean:

– Employers will need to check EU, EEA or Swiss citizens Right to Work online with the Home Office, using a ‘share code’ given to all EU, EAA or Swiss Citizens who have applied to the EU Settlement Scheme. Passports or ID cards can no longer be used as proof of Right to Work.

– For those EEA workers who hold an alternative immigration status, they can provide a copy of their immigration documentation to prove their Right to Work.
