Gi Group UK has launched a local food bank appeal to support families during the Easter period. The appeal will help people access essential provisions, including food, toiletries and Easter treats.
The leading recruitment and HR specialist is supporting local food banks through colleague donations. In addition, it has made a £3,000 contribution, raised at its recent company-wide annual conference.
Local food bank appeal supports Chesterfield families
Working closely with its CSR team, the business is encouraging employees in the East Midlands to donate essential items.
These include food, toiletries, women’s essentials and Easter eggs.
Donations are being collected at a central drop-off point at Gi Group UK’s headquarters in Chesterfield. They will then go to the town’s local food bank to support those in need nearby.
As a result, the appeal will provide practical support to families and individuals in the local community. It also reflects Gi Group UK’s continued focus on supporting the areas where its teams live and work.
Teams across the UK are encouraged to donate
The support also extends beyond Chesterfield. Gi Group UK is calling on teams across all 17 UK hubs to partner with their own local food banks.
These hubs run from Newcastle in the north to Bristol in the south. Therefore, the business hopes to support the communities it serves across the country.
The business is aiming to collect as many donations as possible before the deadline on 10th April. So, teams are being encouraged to donate what they can while the appeal is still open.
Gi Group UK has regularly supported Chesterfield Foodbank over the years. This has included its Easter appeal and other fundraising initiatives.
For example, last year’s Christmas Central Function event generated 156kg of donated items.
Local food bank appeal receives strong support
Sophie Whaite, Business Support Coordinator at Gi Group, said: “Rolling out this initiative across all of our hubs is a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the communities we serve.
“We’ve already had a great response from our teams. Colleagues have generously donated a range of essential items. However, there is still time to contribute. Therefore, we’re encouraging as many people as possible from across all of our teams to get involved and donate what they can before the deadline.
“Every contribution, no matter how small, will help support local food banks. It will also ensure individuals and families have access to the provisions and treats that will help spread joy this Easter.”
Annual conference raises £3,000
Meanwhile, during its recent annual conference, the business also held a treasure hunt.
Each letter helped spell out the business’s mantra: Smart, Together, Against all odds.
Each word completed by the teams equalled a donation amount. The company then rounded up the total to the nearest thousand. This created a grand total of £3,000.
As a result, the conference activity has provided a further boost to the local food bank appeal.
Sally Chalton, HR Business Partner at Gi Group, added: “The CSR team is incredibly proud of the efforts across the business to support these initiatives.
“We want to make sure we’re having as positive an impact as we can across all the communities we serve. In particular, donating provisions is something that can go a long way to the families that need them most. Food and hygiene poverty can be hugely detrimental to our mental health. Therefore, as a business, we want to try our best to support people.”
Grimsby hub supports children in care
Beyond food bank support, the company’s hub in Grimsby is also working with North East Lincolnshire Council.
Together, they are supporting foster children this Easter.
As part of this partnership, the team will donate Easter eggs for the Council’s Easter Egg Hunt on April 8th.
The donation will help create a fun and memorable experience for children in care.
In addition, this activity shows how Gi Group UK teams are supporting their local communities in different ways this Easter.
