Last month, Gi Group sponsored and attended a Greatest Showman themed charity ball, held in London to raise funds and support for the Charlie Gard Foundation.
Created to support children, adults and their families that have been affected by mitochondrial disease, the Charlie Gard Foundation invests in pioneering research for viable treatments, works with global experts to find a cure, and ultimately supports the families of those that suffer from mitochondrial disease.
The foundation is of great importance to Gi Group, with one of our own employee’s grandson affected by the disease. We are therefore delighted to have been the main sponsor for the Charlie Gard Foundation Greatest Showman Ball.
At the event, our CSR Co-Chair Kate Maddison-Greenwell had the chance to talk to co-founders Chris and Connie Gard, who created the foundation in memory of their son Charlie. They spoke about their experience, the foundation and their new research project, giving us a greater understanding of their work.
Kate explained that “Chris and Connie are incredibly inspirational and their investment into further research shows their dedication to supporting other families. There was a lot of love in the room for all the families that are suffering, and to find out that more children die from Mitochondrial Syndrome each year than cancer, it puts into perspective how much more there is to do to raise awareness and offer support”.
Supporting events like these enable us to help those who need it the most, offering support to charities and non-profit groups that are local and personal to the communities in which we work.
