Background to the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games

From 23 July to 2 August 2026, Glasgow will host an altogether brilliant Commonwealth Games. A future-focused celebration of world-class sport delivered through the vibrant spirit of Glasgow.

Across a concentrated eight-mile corridor, 3,000 athletes from 74 nations and territories will compete across 10 sports and 6 Para sports at four iconic venues: Scotstoun Stadium, the Scottish Event Campus (SEC), the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome & Arena, and Tollcross International Swimming Centre. The programme is packed with landmark moments — a record-breaking Para sport offering, the biggest Track Cycling, Swimming and 3×3 Basketball competitions in Commonwealth Games history, and the return of the beloved Commonwealth Mile in Athletics.

Glasgow 2026 Limited is the privately funded Organising Company responsible for delivering the Games, led by Chair George Black CBE and Chief Executive Officer Phil Batty OBE. Based in the heart of the city, the organisation employs over 200 people and is projected to generate an estimated £150 million in local economic activity, supported by 3,000 volunteers and thousands of fans from Glasgow and beyond.

This role places you at the heart of that ambition. Working alongside a passionate team of experts, you’ll contribute directly to delivering a Games that sets a new standard for major sporting events on the world stage and leaves a lasting legacy for Glasgow and the Commonwealth.

About the Role

Reporting to the Venue Media Manager, the Media Operations Coordinator will be responsible for the final planning and the smooth running of media operations spaces at competition venues. The role will be client-facing, facilitating the needs of the media as they cover the Games. It will include volunteer management and coordination with other media service providers.

This is a 3-week contract for the games-time period, starting mid-July 2026.

Role Summary and Key Accountabilities

  • Welcome the media and assist with any enquiries on venue.
  • Ensure that the Venue Media Centre layout meets the specifications, including the installation of the required services for the media.
  • Preparation of the mixed zone, I-Zones and media tribunes in the period before the start of the Games, as well as supporting the Venue Media Manager to best manage their operation during the period of the Games.
  • Preparation and supervision of the photographers’ work areas at the venue during the period of the Games.
  • Assist in the management of the photographers’ positions in the venue.
  • Help to ensure that all services in the media areas, such as connectivity and power, are delivered as planned and working properly and as required.
  • Develop and maintain a close relationship with the representatives of other functional areas at the venue.
  • Lead and support the team of media volunteers as they perform their duties in media spaces.
  • Finalise the volunteer rosters and manage changes to their schedules.
  • Supervise the services offered to the media in the Venue Media Centre, including lockers, copying and scanning documents, and assistance in obtaining technical support.
  • Monitor the cleaning and catering services in the media centre.
  • Assist the Venue Media Manager and Venue Photo Manager in other tasks, as and when required.

Knowledge and Experience

  • A good understanding of the needs of the international media working at major events.
  • Experience of working at sporting events in an operational role.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is imperative.
  • Ability to solve problems effectively and intuitively and to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Previously coordinated or managed a team to deliver a project or event.
  • Experience of managing multiple tasks in an effective and efficient manner, meeting deadlines and agreed objectives.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
