Applications Engineer

Location: Nottingham

Salary: Competitive + Benefits

Hours: 37.5 per week

Join a Leading UK Manufacturer of Bespoke Electronic Components

Are you an experienced Applications Engineer looking to develop your career within a specialist electrical engineering environment? We’re seeking an Applications Engineer to join a UK manufacturer that designs and produces tailored electrical distribution and control assemblies for a wide range of industrial, commercial, and public‑sector applications.

You’ll be part of a business that delivers high‑quality engineered electrical products through complete in‑house processes — from initial concept design through to manufacturing, testing, and client delivery. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a technical, collaborative setting and enjoys working closely with customers and internal engineering teams.

What You’ll Be Doing

In this role, you’ll act as a vital link between engineering design, manufacturing operations, and customer requirements. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Developing a strong understanding of internal electrical engineering systems, processes, and applications.
  • Supporting the engineering team by producing detailed technical designs and contract‑specific documentation for electrical assemblies.
  • Working closely with manufacturing teams to ensure electrical builds meet agreed specifications, quality standards, and safe working practices.
  • Acting as a technical point of contact for customers, supporting clear communication throughout the lifecycle of each project.
  • Coordinating procurement and purchasing activities with internal departments, ensuring correct materials and components are ordered.
  • Compiling accurate engineering and project data to support timely invoicing.
  • Representing the company in client meetings, technical discussions, and occasional out‑of‑hours activities following Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs).
  • Managing engineering orders to ensure projects remain within budget, on schedule, and delivered to the expected specification and quality levels.
  • Ensuring all work is carried out in full compliance with the company’s Business Management System.

The Person

  • Experience in electrical engineering, applications engineering, or a similar technical discipline.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work closely with clients and internal teams.
  • Good organisational abilities with strong attention to detail.
  • A proactive, solution‑focused mindset and a commitment to high‑quality engineering work.

What they Offer

  • A chance to work within a respected engineering team delivering bespoke electrical systems.
  • Exposure to varied and technically engaging electrical engineering projects.
  • Clear progression opportunities across engineering, project delivery, or technical leadership.
  • Competitive salary and benefits.
