This is a panel of individuals who will provide market, community, and industry insights related to the development of heat networks in Bristol, ensuring alignment with the project's strategic goals, and being a "critical friend" who can support and challenge the ongoing development of the project.
As a member of the Advisory Panel, you will work closely with our client's board of directors to provide specialist insight and advice in the delivery of the heat network and its elements over the coming years. The panel will be constituted in such a way that the members have a range of knowledge and skills that offer effective scrutiny and support to the discussions surrounding the heat project.
Candidates do not necessarily need to have knowledge or experience with heat networks or the energy industry, as this role is designed to offer supplementary support from outside of the industry.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide independent view on the proposals made by the heat network within Bristol, particularly in relation to the growth and maintenance of the project
Challenge the direction of the project in relation to internal targets and deadlines
Provide feedback and ideas to enhance the heat network and its project proposals to align it more closely with community ideals and projects
Propose projects that could be included in the heat networks plan that may be developed or owned by the community
Take part in and/or create opportunities to promote the heat network on a local/regional/national level
Input into the development of policy positions related to the heat network
What we need from you:
Demonstrated community involvement within the Bristol area
An interest in energy infrastructure and the direction of renewable energy within the local community
An interest in educating the local population on the heat network
Excellent communication skills and a willingness to represent the Heat Network Advisory Panel in meetings and events
An ability to handle commercially sensitive information
An awareness of the tensions that may arise between meeting carbon reduction, social value and political considerations around this project
Terms of appointment:-
- The membership of the HNAP will include remuneration of £4,000 per annum & reasonable expenses, including travel and childcare costs.
- Time commitment is estimated to in the region of 4-6 days per annum, including attendance at 4 x HNAP meetings, preparation time for review of quarterly reports and papers, ad hoc communication and potential attendance at other stakeholder meetings and events.
- The HNAP is expected to meet quarterly. Meetings will be in person in Bristol where possible, with the potential also for online attendance.
- Members will be asked to commit to a three-year initial term.
- Members will contribute as an individual and will not seek to represent any particular group, organisation, or constituency (although it is acknowledged that they are likely to have additional interests and involvement).
- Members will ensure the work of the HNAP meets best practice standards of corporate governance, ethics, and integrity.
- One of the members will be appointed as Chair by BHNL.
- Bristol City Leap is based in Bristol and meetings will where possible be held in Bristol but may also be in London and/ or online. It is expected that candidates will be based in the UK.
