Maintenance Operative
Location: County Durham
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8am – 4pm
Pay: £14.00 per hour (PAYE)
Contract: Long-term, potential permanent for the right candidate
Overview:
Gi Group are partnering with a respected social housing provider in County Durham to recruit a Maintenance Operative. This role offers stability, a supportive team environment, and the opportunity to secure a permanent position after a successful interim period.
Role Duties:
As a Maintenance Operative, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality repair and improvement works across residential properties managed by the housing provider. Key duties include:
- Reactive Repair Works: Attend to a range of maintenance requests including joinery/carpentry, plumbing (tap and toilet repairs), lock replacements, patch plastering, painting touch-ups, and minor tiling.
- Void Property Preparation: Prepare empty properties for new occupants by clearing, carrying out essential repairs, securing premises, and ensuring properties are ready for rapid re-letting.
- Grounds and External Maintenance: Undertake basic fencing repairs, gutter clearance, and minor external works to maintain the safety and appearance of properties.
- Adaptations and Minor Works: Fit minor adaptations to support tenant requirements and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Material Handling: Manage building materials efficiently and undertake basic numeracy tasks for quoting, measuring, and payment processing as required.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Proven experience in a multi-skilled maintenance role, ideally within social housing or a similar environment.
- Competent in general repairs, basic joinery/carpentry, plumbing, patch plastering, and painting.
- Knowledge of building materials and maintenance best practice.
- Ability to turnaround void properties efficiently, prioritising safe and effective repairs for re-letting.
- Full UK driving licence (essential) to travel between properties.
- Basic numeracy skills, enabling you to accurately quote for jobs and handle payments.
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
