Maintenance Operative – Minor Adaptations (Handyperson Service)
Location: Durham (travel between local properties)
Contract: Temporary – up to 30 June
Hours: 37 hours/week
Rate: £13.70 per hour
Van: Included - with travel from home address to job and return
DBS: Enhanced DBS required and paid for by GI Group. Immediate starts
Overview GI Group is recruiting Maintenance Operatives to deliver minor adaptations for a social housing client in Durham. The role supports vulnerable customers to remain safe and independent by installing hand and grab rails, carrying out small home repairs.
Key duties
- Install grab rails, internal/external handrails and step adaptations to specification.
- Complete small-scale household repairs and basic joinery tasks.
- Accurately record all work on site (materials used, time, client notes) using an electronic tablet – all successful candidates must be able to record work on a tablet.
- Accountable for safe use of materials, vehicles, tools, stock.
- Liaise with clients, Occupational Therapists, referrers and colleagues; escalate issues to the Team Leader.
- Comply with health & safety policies, wear PPE and follow procedures at all times.
Essential requirements
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between properties.
- Experience in repairs and joinery/carpentry sufficient to fit minor adaptations.
- Understanding of building construction, maintenance, materials and basic building regs.
- Ability to carry out basic household repairs to a high standard.
- Able to use an electronic tablet to record work on site (basic digital literacy and data entry).
- Right to work in the UK.
Desirable
- Experience working with vulnerable client groups and outside agencies.
